WSJ article is confusing, says Najib's lawyer
The WSJ article which accused Datuk Seri Najib Razak of having swindled US$700 million from the 1MDB is confusing, his lawyer said.
The Wall Street Journal's article which accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of having swindled US$700 million from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad is confusing, according to Najib's lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun.
The lawyer said the article, which was published on July 2, did not clarified whether the money was from 1MDB.
The first two paragraphs of the article implied that the money was from 1MDB, but in the fifth and sixth paragraphs, the words 'unknown source' were stated, and this requires a clarification, he said.
Mohd Hafarizam also told reporters here that the Letter of Clarification was sent to the WSJ publisher according to legal procedures.
He said the clarification was vital to enable them to advise their client on the best next cause of action.
So far, the lawyer said his firm, Mssrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, had yet to receive any reply from the WSJ regarding their stand on the allegations in the their articles published on July 2 and 6.
The WSJ has until Tuesday (July 21) to reply to the letter, which was sent on July 8, he added.
