WSJ suit: PM will decide in the next few days

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will decide in days to come on the next course of action to be taken over reports alleging tha 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds had been channelled into his personal account.

"I will decide in the next few days ... in relation to the malicious accusations (by Wall Street Journal)," he said in a press conference in Semenyih on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said the matter has been referred to his lawyers and they will advise him on the appropriate action to be taken in terms of legislation.

"I'm referring to media allegations that have been made against me saying that I had taken US$700 million from 1MDB and had put the money into my personal account.

"My lawyers will advise me on the next course of legal action that I can take locally and internationally," he said.

Earlier it was reported that Najib will make an announcement on his lawsuit against WSJ on Tuesday over a report on the allegations.

In its article published last Friday, WSJ alleged that 1MDB funds amounting to US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) had been channelled to the premier's personal account, a claim denied by both Najib and 1MDB.

Several parties have since urged the Prime Minister to take legal action against WSJ to clear his name and defend the government’s integrity.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in a statement yesterday said authorities are currently investigating three companies linked to the WSJ allegations which had also been reported by the Sarawak Report.
