PUTRAJAYA:Tan Sri Annuar Musa today said he refused to be in complicit with Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman and UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on various efforts taken that were against his political principles and stance.

Annuar, who was sacked as BN secretary-general yesterday, stressed that there were some decisions and actions of Ahmad Zahid that he described were made according to the personal agenda of the leadership.

Accordingly, Annuar said he consistently adhered strongly to the decisions of the party and the party's basic principles to unite the Malays and Muslims.

He said, the combination of Muafakat Nasional (MN), BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) has formed a consensus that should be strengthened.

However, Annuar said, the effort did not seem to achieve what has been desired when there was unrest among members that affected the party's reputation.

"The party is seen to have been dragged to follow a personal agenda. This difference of stance demands that I take a decision not to conspire with moves that are not in line with the official decision of the MKT (Supreme Working Council).

"With these differences in principles, it is better that I do not be in complicit with the direction of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"By no longer being the BN secretary-general, I am more free to act and make a political stand according to my own conscience and like-minded friends," he said in a press conference at his office here on Wednesday.

The Ketereh Member of Parliament stressed that during his tenure as BN secretary-general, he realised that the task could only be performed well when there was a feeling of mutual trust between him and the chairman.

“Although there has been such an atmosphere before, but recently, the atmosphere has changed due to several things, events and policies that demand me to defend my political principles and stance firmly and frankly," he said.

Here are some of the policies of the top leadership that Annuar said made him unclear with the direction of the party:

• Black and white support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to bring down the BN-affiliated Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

• Attempts and consultations involving DAP in what is termed as the formation of a New Political Alignment.

• Repeated attempts to destabilize the PN government that affected the good relationship between UMNO, PAS and Bersatu.

• The ‘flip-flop’ situation of the leadership, especially the BN chairman, in policy matters related to MN until there was ambiguity in the direction of MN.

• Repeated calls to dissolve Parliament and holding elections in a situation when the people are suffering from the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic hardship.

• The failure of the leadership to create harmony and decorum within the party, where continuous open squabbles led to the people’s trust deficit; and

• Party decisions such as ‘No DAP’, ‘No Anwar’, ‘en-bloc’ support for the PN government and others have been disrespected.
