KUALA LUMPUR:Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has claimed that a total of 114 or 115 members of Parliament (MPs) have expressed their protest against the emergency proposed by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Based on that number which is deemed to be more than enough, Anwar has sought for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to consider the matter and call a parliamentary session immediately.
“If we look at the latest, as well as the statement of the National Council of Professors (MPN), we ask for the kindness and wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to reconsider, review, firstly the emergency and secondly, call Parliament to be in session immediately.
"That we have reached in 114 or 115 MPs who reject the motion of the PN government, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, this is undeniable.
“Is the number enough? That is more than enough,” he said in a live broadcast of the National Professors’ Mind Program - Bicara Negarawan Series-3 which was posted on the official Facebook page of the National Professors Council on Saturday.
Anwar had previously claimed that the majority of MPs had sent a letter to Al-Sultan Abdullah seeking for His Majesty’s consent to revoke the declaration of emergency.
He explained that the letter was not to protest but to plead for the kindness and wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to review the reasons given by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, previously.
"Yes, it is true, now the MPs who wrote the letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has reached more than the majority ... not to protest, (but) to plead to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider, review and study the reasons brought by the Prime Minister (which) is unreasonable and not strong enough.
"So, we plead to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consider and we accept the decision of Tuanku's wisdom. A letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was sent yesterday (Tuesday)" he said in a press conference via his official Facebook on Wednesday.
