"UMNO as the largest bloc of members of Parliament (MPs) is being unfairly sidelined."
UMNO Deputy President, Mohamad Hasan has joined the chorus of party leaders dissatisfied with the appointments in the new Cabinet announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on Monday.
Mohamad, in a statement on his Facebook page, said there were various rumblings about the new Cabinet appointments, from the absence of a deputy prime minister to allegations that the composition was biased.
"Firstly, the provision of the ministry portfolios (to UMNO) that are not critical. This situation is not in line with the number of MPs from UMNO and the level of experience they have.
"Secondly, the Cabinet composition clearly benefits the Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) bloc and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
"While it is not in the best interests of UMNO to hold government positions in the current political climate, it is important for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to take into account the size of the party's representation in the government based on those two arguments," he said.
Mohamad also added that if the Cabinet does not follow past political practices, it could make the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government fragile which could lead to failure.
"It is clear that UMNO, as the biggest bloc of MPs, has been sidelined,” he said, after several UMNO MPs, including Datuk Seri Azalina Othman (Pengerang), Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak) and Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan) had voiced their disappointment since Monday.
