FORMER Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, acknowledged that his relationship with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been problematic but he was willing to dismiss the issue and renew their cooperation for the sake of party agenda.
According to Dr Mahathir, his strategic alliance with Anwar was renewed mainly to bring down Datuk Seri Najib Razak's government.
“I admit to having problems with Anwar. When I was UMNO president, Anwar was ousted from the party and sentenced to prison. However, I thought we needed to fight to defeat Najib,” he said.
"I think that between Najib and Anwar, I consider Najib as more dangerous," he added.
However, Dr Mahathir said, shortly after Anwar was released from his jail term in May 2018, he was no longer as what he had expected of him.
“When he got out of prison, he went everywhere, unlike other Pakatan Harapan leaders. Other leaders in PH are in the party and are inactive,” he said when asked about his personal perception of the PKR president in an exclusive interview with Sinar Harian.
The interview was broadcast exclusively on Sinar Harian's Facebook page today.
Dr Mahathir added he had described Anwar as "stormy weather".
"Wherever he goes, he brings the storm.
“However, I am still with him (Anwar). But when PH Supreme Council rejected me, that's why I lost,” he added.
