BN only wants MIC conflict to end - Khairy
Khairy said the internal conflict in MIC, if left unresolved, would also affect the coalition as a whole.
UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin stressed that Barisan Nasional (BN) has no intention of interfering in the internal affairs of the troubled MIC.
However, he said, the coalition only wanted to ensure the coalition was not affected by the party’s crisis.
He said BN respected MIC but said its internal conflict, if left unresolved, would also affect the coalition as a whole.
He said MIC needs to understand that it is a component of BN and therefore the party’s conflict is a coalition’s problem.
Khairy also called on MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel to stop his attacks on the Registar of Societies (RoS) and challenge its order for a re-election.
Earlier today, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the coalition is not interested in meddling in the internal affairs of MIC.
Tengku Adnan who had proposed to set up a secretariat yesterday, said the proposal was just a suggestion to help the party, adding that it was up to the MIC whether or not to accept the proposal.
Last Dec 5, the RoS had directed MIC to hold re-elections for three vice-president and 23 CWC posts within 90 days, following irregularities in the elections held in 2013.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that the MIC would hold re-elections at all levels from April to July to resolve the crisis, and prevent it from being de-registered.
