ALOR SETAR:The decision on the division of seats involving Pas and UMNO through Muafakat Nasional (MN) as well as Pas and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) through Perikatan Nasional (PN) is not final.
In fact, they have yet to be finalised as long as the date of the 15th General Election (GE15) is yet to be determined.
Pas President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said so far, no confirmation on seats distribution involving the party has been made as changes can still be done before the actual date of the GE is announced.
"Elections… we do not know when. Once we know, only then we can finalise it. Insya-Allah, when we know the election date, we will be able to determine (the seat distribution).
"That matter can change, I cannot tell now, we can adjust again where necessary, change here and there wherever required, it is not yet final.
“But, we have decided (to) hand over (seat division negotiation process) to the central (PAS)," he said when met by the media after the Prime Minister's Special Ambassador to the Middle East’s Engagement Session with MUDA area farmers, at the MADA Headquarters, Ampang Jajar, here on Monday.
In the same development, Abdul Hadi stressed that the implementation of the 15th General Election in the near future is very inappropriate, especially when the country is facing the spread of COVID-19 and flood disasters in several states.
"This time is inappropriate, there are still COVID cases, floods (also) we do not know how to overcome, flood victims still cannot (solve) (their problems)… let all (this matter) be resolved first, only then can we think (to hold) elections," he added.
Last Saturday, former UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, informed that UMNO has completed the seat negotiations with PAS and will contest at least 96 Parliamentary seats in the next 15th General Election (GE15).
The Padang Rengas Member of Parliament stated that the decision was announced by UMNO Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who informed that UMNO will contest 96 seats in GE15.
Nazri said UMNO will also not give space to Bersatu to contest the Parliamentary seats that UMNO won in the last GE14.
Earlier, PAS Election Director, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, explained that the seat distribution negotiations between the Muafakat Nasional (MN) coalition parties have reached a consensus of more than 50 per cent so far.
According to him, negotiations are still ongoing to ensure that there is no three-cornered contest between the coalition partners in GE15.
