Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must contest and win in the general election to remain relevant in the political world, said Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Commenting on Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak's challenge that Dr Mahathir should lead the Opposition, Dr Wan Azizah said the former premier must first prove that he is fit to lead them.

"He must first win in the election. I contested and won and now I am the Opposition leader. So he must first contest," she said after visiting Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at the Penang Hospital, today.

Also present were Penang deputy chief minister Datuk Abdul Rashid Hasnon and PKR deputy Youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin.

Salleh in his blog sskeruak.blogspot.my had challenged Dr Mahathir to fight Barisan Nasional openly as a Opposition leader and not to hide behind non-governmental organisations.

He said BN's victory in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar proved that the Opposition failed to fulfill its responsibility towards Malaysians.
