'Must I support the no-confidence vote against PM?' - Ku Li
KU LI: If the Prime Minister's support erodes, then he falls. That is the spirit of the constitution.
Dewan Rakyat members have the right to voice their opinions on the country’s leadership, said Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
The veteran politician said, this was because Members of Parliament are ‘tools’ in safeguarding the people’s interests.
"Whatever that is being said represents the voice of the rakyat," he told reporters when asked to comment on the plan by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to table a motion of no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"It (the motion) depends on them. I have nothing to do with this.
"Dewan Rakyat members are free to express their views in this matter because a person who is made Prime Minister through the constitution is an individual who had gained the confidence of the majority of those in Parliament.
"So, if his support erodes, then he falls. That is the spirit of the constitution," said Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang MP.
When asked if he would support the motion if tabled in Parliament, Razaleigh gave a somewhat cynical reply.
"Must I?"
