Najib to summon Palanivel, Subramaniam again next week
NAJIB: I will meet with Datuk G.Palanivel and Datuk S.Subramaniam again on Monday or Tuesday for clarification.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will summon MIC president Datuk Seri G.Palanivel and deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam next week to update him on MIC's internal conflict.
This is the second time that the duo had been asked to see the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, in a bid to resolve the crisis faced by the BN component party.
"I will meet with Datuk G.Palanivel and Datuk S.Subramaniam again on Monday or Tuesday for clarification," Najib briefly told reporters when met at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) here today.
Najib was at the venue for the Premier Golf Competition 2015, Sultan Azlan Shah Trophy organised by the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam).
He was asked to comment on Palanivel's statement insisting that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) rescind its order to the MIC to hold a fresh election for certain party posts.
MIC's wrangling followed RoS' nullification of the party election results for the three vice president posts and 23 Central Working Committee seats at its annual general assembly in Melaka in November 2013.
Through a letter dated Dec 5, 2014, RoS ordered MIC to hold a fresh election for the posts within 90 days.
In his statement today, Palanivel said the party would take legal action against Ros if it refuses to rescind the order.
On Monday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested that MIC hold a fresh election including at branch and division-level between April and July this year, to avoid deregistration.
He said Ros' order was meant to end the party's conflict surrounding the election of leaders representing the Indian community.
