Datuk Seri G. Palanivel is apparently no longer the MIC president, according to a letter from the Registrar of Societies released today.

The letter stated that Palanivel, who is also Natural Resources and Environmnet Minister, lost his membership under Article 91 of the MIC constitution.

Palanivel, however, told a media conference today that he was still party president as he 'has yet to receive the letter'.

"I’m aware of talks about a letter from RoS but I haven’t seen it. Have you seen the letter?" he asked newsmen.

He maintained that he has not received such a letter and said he would respond to it when necessary.

"We will wait for the letter," he said.

Palanivel, who is Natural Resources and Environment Minister, also said he would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss the best mechanism for the party's re-election.

He said he had already explained the matter to Najib during his meeting with the premier on Tuesday.

"I have given the letter to the PM. He will look at it. If he agrees, we will go ahead. Most probably he will. We will wait," he said.

Palanivel said the CWC meeting today had passed three resolutions, among which the five individuals, including himself who took party matters to court, would remain as members.

The other four are Datuk S. Sothinathan, Datuk S. Balakrishnan, former secretary-general A. Prakash Rao and CWC member A.K. Ramalingam.
