The new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has been approved in principle by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.
The approval was given after its application to use the name 'Bersatu' was rejected on the grounds that it has already been used by more than six other parties.
"The name (acronym) PPBM was chosen by them.
"Several negotiations were held with the ROS and the name PPBM has been approved as the acronym of the party," said Zahid in a press conference after delivering a speech during the Home Ministry's monthly assembly here, today.
The official approval will be issued after PPBM has specified the role of president and chairman as outlined in the party's constitution.
"This is because, the role of chairman (according to the party's constitution) is to chair the meeting of the top leadership while the president chairs the presidential council meetings.
"That is what is stated in their constitution, so I am not going to interfere," he added.
Apart from the party's name, its logo has also been changed following negotiations with the ROS.
ROS will give a written approval soon after it is satisfied with the details given related to the roles and responsibilities of the party chairman and president.
