PAS’s vice-president Datuk Husam Musa said he does not want to contest for the party’s president or deputy president position but said that he will defend his vice-president post.

“I thank all the divisions which had nominated me for the top two posts but I apologise to them. I only wish to accept nominations for the vice-presidency post that I hold now,” he said in a press statement.

He said although he understood the conflict in PAS now, he still believed and supported the ulama faction in the party.

He said being part of the generation born from the ulama leadership, he believed that ulama should lead the party.

With Husam’s announcement, there are currently two candidates vying for the deputy president position – incumbent Mohamad Sabu and Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah had contested and lost to Mohamad Sabu in the 2013 party elections.
