National cycling champion Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has confirmed attending two rounds of the Track World Cup series to earn a berth to the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

He will be joining the first series of the Track Cycling World Cup in Pruszkow, Poland from Nov 4 to 5 and the second series in Manchester, England from Nov 10 to 12.

The world keirin champion said track cycling racers needed to collect points in the World Cup series to qualify for the World Championships.

"My coach, John Beasley and I have not discussed which championships I will take part in, after the Hong Kong World Championships recently but his initial plan was for me to join two World Cup series before returning to Melbourne, Australia," he said.

Mohd Azizulhasni, who is CIMB ambassador, was speaking to reporters at the CIMB booth in the 2017 Graduate and Postgraduate Career Fair at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here yesterday.

He said he was not so agreeable with the proposal by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) to move the national track cycling squad training centre from Melbourne, Australia to the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

Mohd Azizulhasni said he was more comfortable with training in Australia after having been there for 10 years, adding the facilities there were the best in the world apart from a systematic competition schedule.

"They (MNCF) can move athletes under their programme from Melbourne to Malaysia but I am under the Podium Programme of the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).

"If KBS talks to me about returning home, I will do so but for the time being, I am still under KBS programme here which has helped me to achieve much success."

On another development, Mohd Azizulhasni was proud to be given the honour by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to officiate the National Velodrome with national cycling legends, Datuk Ng Joo Ngan and Rosman Alwi on May 25.
