National shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei beat Korea's Lee Dong Keun in a straight set with 21-11 and 21-12 in the Day One match during the BWF World Championship 2014 here Tuesday morning.
The world-class tournament kicked off at the Ballerup Super Arena and saw the nation's most-loved sportsman proving his mettle despite sustaining a hemstring injury.
Meanwhile, national badminton singles chief coach, Rashid Sidek is confident that Malaysia's number two men's singles Chong Wei Feng will get back his rhythm, after a rather bitter lesson learnt from his surprise defeat to India's R.M.V Gurusaidutt in the quarter-finals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
"I hope he will deliver ... I am satisfied with his current performance... he has been training a lot with (Malaysia's badminton superstar) Datuk Lee Chong Wei who has also given him much encouragement and motivation.
"Wei Feng's confidence appears to be back on track," he said.
Rashid stressed that although everyone was banking on Chong Wei to clinch the title, he was sure that Wei Feng will make a name for himself at this 21st edition of the prestigious tournament.
Wei Feng will be seeing first round action against Rajiv Ouseph of England on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Rashid said he had put behind him his tiff with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff over the performance of Malaysia's third singles Liew Daren at the Commonwealth Games.
He said he was now focusing on assisting the national squad find success at this championship although "it was no easy task".
"My intention is to help the team do well here and I will do my best to get the players to perform to their maximum potential," he said.
