"Do not run away from your responsibility to pay salaries and bonuses to players even after resigning."

This was the hope of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) who want Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and team manager, Amirudin Shari to fulfill their promises to settle the salary of players and coaches which is in arrears for November and also bonus for making it to the final of the Malaysia Cup.

FAS secretary-general Rosman Ibrahim said the association was disappointed that the issue has yet to be solved and that attempts to meet the duo was futile.

He also said FAS has yet to receive any official letter from Mohamed Azmin or Amirudin over their resignation although both had announced their resignation from respective posts via a joint-statement issued on Friday.

"FAS will only hold a special exco meeting to discuss the matter after receiving their letters. The players have also issued statements demanding the settlement of their salary.

"FAS also hope that the issue of salary for former head coach, Zainal Abidin Hassan who was sacked by Amirudin via an SMS (short messaging system) without proper channel and black-and-white, will be solved," he said in a statement here Sunday.

Rosman said FAS had sent invitation letters to Azmin who is also the FAS president, to attend exco meetings held over the past two months but they were ignored as if the latter "did not care about issues surrounding the FAS".

"The association also disappointed with several accusations and labels levelled at us. They are baseless and deemed as trying to get off the hook although both Azmin and Amirudin involved directly in the team management," he said.

Despite the crisis, FAS ensured that Selangor's preparations for the 2017 season under new head coach P. Maniam; manager Abdul Rauf Ahmad; and his assistant Omar Ali, would go on smoothly.

The team will play their opening Super League match against Penang at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium on Jan 21. - Bernama
