Footballer Ahmad Fauzi Saari, who was involved in an accident at Km407.5 of the North-South Expressway heading to Ipoh, near Lembah Beringin, Hulu Selangor, early Sunday morning, wants to recuperate in his hometown, Kulim.
The Felda United player who fractured his right hand in the 1.40am incident, said he was not sure how long he would rest before getting back into action.
"I will continue my follow-up treatment at a hospital here and rest in my hometown, Kulim," he said when met at the Kampung Bukit Lala cemetery, here, after the burial of his friend, Muhammad Khairul Adnan Zakaria, 26, who was killed in the accident.
When asked about the accident, the former Kedah player said everything happened so fast that he didn't realise how it happened.
"I remember the road was wet and had pools of water. We weren't sleepy when the accident happened," he added.
According to Hulu Selangor police, the BMW car driven by Muhammad Khairul Adnan had lost control and skidded at a bend before crashing into a road divider and burst into flames.
Muhammad Khairul Adnan was reported to have died on the spot and his body sent to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital. Ahmad Fauzi was also treated at the same hospital.
He said a couple had helped them during the accident.
"The couple assisted in getting Muhammad Khairul Adnan out (from the car). I'm not sure whether he was alive then or not. He suffered serious head injury," he added.
