Jomary 'The Zamboanginian Fighter' Torres has a huge task awaiting her at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY on Friday, 12 July.
Standing in her way of victory is Malaysian martial arts sensation Jihin 'Shadow Cat' Radzuan, and the Filipina knows the hometown support could prove to be a deciding factor in this three-round women's atomweight contest.
With the bout just around the corner, Torres stated that she has never felt in better condition leading up to a match.
“I am in great shape, both physically and mentally. I think this is the best I’ve felt since I started martial arts,” she shared.
“I feel like this is the fight where I can showcase my best version because I know the true meaning of dedication and hard work. I am so focused right now.”
Torres has worked hard throughout this training camp, with an aim to leave the Malaysian capital with a huge upset.
The 23-year-old is on the back of three successive defeats, and she knows another loss could be a turning point in her career.
However, the Catalan Fighting System representative revealed that being under the guidance of famed Filipino Wushu World Champion and ONE veteran Rene Catalan has instilled renewed hope in her heart.
"My training camp went well, and I was really locked-in with what coach [Rene Catalan] teaches. It will only help me moving forward to get the win. Everyone in the gym helped me out with the challenge I’m facing in Malaysia,” Torres said.
“Coach Rene locked-in on me. He brought me to camps everywhere. He knows that I’m facing a strong opponent, and he worked really hard to prepare me for it. I am so ready for Friday.”
A win should not only boost her confidence, but it’ll leave Torres with a chance to climb up the rankings in ONE Championship’s women’s atomweight division.
She is aware of this and hopes to recapture her previous form, which saw her seal three straight wins when she first arrived in The Home Of Martial Arts.
“I feel like I’m being matched with more difficult opponents now. I still see myself among the lower ranks, so getting matched up with these top athletes makes me a bit nervous,” she admitted.
“I understand that with every win, the level of competition gets fiercer, so I’m catching up by training hard every day.”
