PM congratulates Chong Wei for winning Hong Kong Open Super Series
The win was also Chong Wei's fourth Hong Kong Open title since he had also emerged victorious in 2009, 2010 and 2013 and saw his world ranking rise to sixth. -
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak congratulated ace shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei for winning the Hong Kong Open Super Series yesterday, his third Super Series title, this year.
"Congratulations! (Tahniah @LeeChongWei) for winning your third consecutive Super Series title at the Hong Kong Open," said Najib in his Twitter entry today.
Chong Wei, the former world number one who had won the French Open Super Series last month and the China Open Premier Super Series last week, added the Hong Kong Open Super Series title after beating China's Tian Houwei in the men's singles final yesterday.
The win was also Chong Wei's fourth Hong Kong Open title since he had also emerged victorious in 2009, 2010 and 2013 and saw his world ranking rise to sixth.
Chong Wei, 33, who returned to the court in May after an eight-month suspension imposed by the Badminton World Federation due to a doping offence last year, has accumulated five title.
In June, he clinched the United States Open and Canada Open Grand Prix titles and in August reached final of the World Championship but lost to China's Chen Long.
