National seasonal golfer, Danny Chia is within striking distance and on course for the top 30 ranked players after the second round at the Rio Olympic Games here, Friday.
His round of one-under par 70 in the wet, windy and cold weather pushed him to joint 37th with six others with a two-round score of 143.
Danny is one stroke behind seven others in joint 30th place on 142 strokes while overnight leader Marcus Fraser of Australia maintained the leaderboard with a slim one stroke lead over Thomas Pieters of Belgium.
Malaysia's second golfer, Gavin Kyle Green fired a three-over par 74 in today's round, picking up from his two-over 73 yesterday to stay in joint 51st spot with two others on 147.
Danny finished his rounds with two birdies in the third and fifth hole and a bogey in the seventh to end the first nine with one-under 34.
On the back nine, Danny posted the birdie in the 10th and bogeyed the par four 15th hole for par 36.
Gavin did not fare better than his two-over game yesterday when he fumbled with a double bogey in the second hole and a subsequent bogey in the next before picking two birdies in the fourth and ninth hole.
In the final nine holes, Gavin had two bogey back-to-back in the 11th and 12th before making amendments in the 16th for a birdie.
National team manager Vincent Wong said Danny had a much better day and played the morning session well before his drop shots failed him.
He said Gavin could not adjust to the chilly cold weather and had trouble in the second, third and fourth holes before regaining composure to scale back into the game.
"Overall, given the condition we had in the morning, both boys did well," he said.
Golf returns to the Olympics after a 112-year absence.
