Roddick defeats Murray at Miami Tennis Cup
Andy Roddick and Andy Murray hit the court at the Crandon Park Tennis Centre for their semi-final match of the Miami Tennis Cup on Saturday (Dec 1).
The Cup is Roddick's second exhibition since retiring from competitive tennis at the U.S. Open in September.
The former Florida resident dominated the world number three Murray early in the first set. Roddick dropped a winner to open up a considerable advantage against Murray 4-1 in the first set.
The Scot just recently started training again, and the rust showed when he put his backhand shot wide to drop the first set 2-6 to the American.
However, Murray started the second set much brighter, and Roddick's unforced error into the net gave the US Open champion a 2-0 advantage.
Roddick came back forcing a shot wide from Murray to lead 3-2, and broke the 25-year-old with a wonderful cross court winner to take a commanding 5-3 lead in the decisive set.
The American finished Murray off with another forehand winner right on the line to win the second 6-3.
Roddick will face the winner of the John Isner- Nicolas Almagro match in the final on Sunday.
