Selangor booted out of AFC Cup
Selangor were booted out of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC Cup) competition after losing 0-2 to New Radiant Sports Club from Maldives, at the Maldives National Stadium, today.
With the loss, Selangor followed in the foot steps of Kelantan who were also shown the exit by Kitchee Sports Club from Hong Kong by the same goal margin.
The match which ended goalless in 90 minutes of regulation time was forced into extra-time since a winner had to be decided.
With Selangor exploits fading during extra-time, the Maldives outfit seized the opportunity to strike through Ahmed Niyaz in the 98th minute and Ali Fasir in the 109th minute to ensure their team advanced to the quarterfinal stage.
The exit of Selangor and Kelantan who had qualified for the quarterfinals in 2006 and 2012, ended Malaysia's representation in the AFC Cup this year.
