Niaga Spotlight: World Heart Day 2026 | Malaysia’s Hidden Heart Risk
Malaysia spends nearly RM4.0 billion annually in direct healthcare costs specifically for treating cardiovascular disease (CVD) Plus, when factoring in indirect economic costs—such as early retirement, workplace absenteeism, and premature deaths among the working-age population— CVD costs the Malaysian economy an astronomical RM60+ billion per year in total losses, equivalent to roughly 3.5% to 4.0% of annual GDP.
In fact, CVD accounts for 62.9% of all lost national productivity caused by premature deaths.
