Little is known to the local consumer about energy management and automation specialist Schneider Electric. Ask the average person on the street, and most would say “Who?”.

But the 183-year-old French multinational company is providing services which are ubiquitous in our day-to-day lives.

Schneider Electric is leading the digital transformation of energy management and automation in homes, buildings, data centres, infrastructure and industries.

Country President for Malaysia, Soo Pow Leong shares his thoughts on the Schneider brand.

Schneider also has been getting exposure through pilot projects on renewable energy. One such project is on an island called Semakau, located to the south of Singapore. It is the republic's first offshore landfill.

Pow Leong explains, “It is a government initiative, in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University to develop and study microgrids. In Phase One, we started with solar power. For Phase Two, we are exploring wind turbine power.”

With such a project in the works, could we expect more projects like this to be implemented elsewhere? “Schneider is always interested to be part of pilot projects on renewable energy in Malaysia. We are already working with Tenaga Nasional for some microgrid projects in East Malaysia.”

“All the technology we have, we would want to bring it into Malaysia but we have to see the timing, and to roll them out in phases. We have raising awareness to corporate company stakeholders, developers and even factories to give them an idea about how Internet of Thing (IoT) and eco structure platforms can benefit their energy management and improve efficiencies.”

Pow Leong shares with us the outlook of Schneider in Malaysia. “We want Schneider to be the main driver of digital transformation in energy management. We also want to be the key provider in the push toward renewable energy."
