Malaysia has called on the Myanmar government to undertake concrete and positive steps to put an end to all acts of violence, including human rights violations against the Muslim community in Myanmar.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said Malaysia had full confidence that the Myanmar government was capable of addressing the matter in a just and expeditious manner.

Malaysia welcomed the latest statement issued by the government of Myanmar on Oct 2 on the recent riots to bring the perpetrators to justice and to rebuild the burnt houses, he said in a statement on Friday.

He said Malaysia was gravely concerned with the latest incidents of inter-communal violence between the Muslim and Buddhist communities that erupted in the Thandwe township in Rakhine State, Myanmar since Sept 29.

"The violence against Muslim minorities which until now recorded five deaths and a number of houses and a mosque burnt is unjustifiable."

He said Malaysia was also pleased to note that the President of Myanmar during his first visit to Rakhine State from Oct 1 to 3, had met with leaders from the Muslim and Buddhist communities to defuse the tension and would take measures to bring the conflict to an end.
