Countering claims by Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, 1MDB says it is already being probed by several authorities and has been cooperative in the investigations.
“YB Tony Pua has conveniently ignored to highlight that 1MDB is currently the subject of enquiries by a number of authorities, including the Auditor-General, Bank Negara Malaysia, PDRM and last but not least the Public Accounts Committee a committee that YB Tony Pua himself is a member of,” 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy said in a statement.
Pua in a statement earlier questioned why the Home Minister is going after The Edge for its 1MDB reports and on what basis it had issued a show cause letter to the company.
He said the ministry should instead go after 1MDB officials for allegedly not coming forth with truthful answers.
“1MDB is fully cooperating with these enquiries. Accordingly, evidence and proof relating to the company have been and will continue to be shared with these lawful authorities,” Arul Kanda said.
He said 1MDB had also repeatedly issued clarifications to address claims by various parties including former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Pua and The Edge media group.
He said the PAC is the lawful authority to verify allegations such as whether RM42 billion has 'disappeared' from 1MDB.
“In the interest of fairness and due process, 1MDB trusts that Tony Pua will confirm that the PAC will investigate this specific allegation of "RM42 billion missing" in the same way he is insisting that other allegations against 1MDB are to be investigated,” Arul Kanda said.
