Grandall law firm's alliance with Malaysia's RWC marks 50 years of China-Malaysia relations

Grandall (formerly known as Grandall Legal Group) was founded in June 1998 and was the first law firm authorized by the Ministry of Justice of China to utilize the title "Legal Group." Being one of the largest law firms in China, Grandall has long been committed to the development of specialization, standardization, and internationalization.

The firm has 36 offices in most major cities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Paris, Madrid, Stockholm and New York. Grandall consists of over 680 equity partners and a combined workforce exceeding 5,000 professionals, including many esteemed experts and academics in various legal fields.

RWC was founded by Richard Wee in 2019, a boutique law firm located in the heart of the capital city Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. RWC is committed to providing personalized and high-quality legal services to all our clients, and is renowned for its expertise in sports & esports, technology, ESG, labor, real estate, and e-commerce, among others, and has significant influence in Malaysia. RWC has been ranked by Legal 500 for three consecutive years (2022-2024) and has also been nominated for the first Southeast Asian Law Award in Singapore.

RWC won the Entertainment and Sports Law Firm of the Year in 2023 and 2024 by Asia Business Law Journal. At the Annual Malaysia Law Awards by Thomson Reuter’s Asian Legal Business (ALB), RWC won the Sports Law Firm of the Year award in 2020, 2021 and 2024. Over and above that, RWC was nominated for numerous categories including Law Firm of the Year for Litigation, Employment, and Technology respectively. RWC has also organized, hosted, and participated in many community projects.

In cementing and promoting the collaboration, Grandall appointed two of its senior counsels, fellow Malaysians Will Fung and Kee Shao Yee from its Beijing office to join RWC, where Will Fung will assume the leadership role as the Principal Partner at RWC.

Will Fung was among the first batch of foreign legal counsels duly registered with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice with exceptional professional expertise. He first arrived in Beijing in 2006 and started working in an American-managed law firm, he later joined Grandall’s Beijing office in 2007 and since then practiced as an international counsel assisting clients in their legal matters in China and globally, primarily as a Corporate M&A practitioner.

Will Fung was recognized by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR1000) as a Notable Practitioner, M&A, China for the years 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023, and was ranked in the Legal 500 for Corporate M&A, China in 2021. Will has also served as the Chairman of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (MAYCHAM China) for a two-term period in 2017-2022.

Richard Wee is the managing partner of RWC and was admitted and enrolled as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1999. His main areas of practice include sports & esports, technology, corporate governance, e-commerce law, etc. He has also served as the Secretary (2013-2015) and elected Councilor of the Malaysian Bar Council (2011-2016) and is currently the Chairman of the Professional Standards and Development Committee of the Malaysian Bar Council.

The Government of Malaysia has also acknowledged Richard Wee, appointing him to the Panel of Experts for the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, and Ministry of Youth & Sports respectively.

With effect from June 20, 2024, the tradename of the firm in Chinese language will be changed to 国浩律师（马来西亚）事务所, but retain the English tradename of “Richard Wee Chambers” – a member of Grandall Law Firm. The firm now has 12 senior lawyers onboard and shall continue to expand, adding new talents to boost our capability within the next 1-3 months.

The alliance also offers a dispute resolution shield to defend and/or pursue justice for our clients.
