Income tax of Uber, GrabCar drivers similar to other individuals - LHDN
Uber and GrabCar drivers who work part time too are subject to be taxed if they earned an income that exceeds RM30,000 a year.
The individual income tax imposed on Uber and GrabCar drivers is similar to the tax imposed on individuals running other businesses.
The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) in a statement said income tax would only be imposed on net income of the drivers, which might come from their driving activities and other income, including a monthly salary, if any.
"Just like other individuals, Uber and GrabCar divers can also make a claim on their expenses, such as the costs of fuel, toll payments and maintenance of the vehicle, as well as the fees paid to the operator, in calculating their net income from the driving activities," it said.
Prior to this, LHDN chief executive officer Datuk Sabin Samitah was reported as saying that Uber and GrabCar drivers who work part time were not exempted from declaring their income to the LHDN.
This is because they too are subject to be taxed if they earned an income that exceeds RM30,000 a year. -- Bernama
