Fox Studios to develop film adaptation of 'Clue' board game

FOX Studios has joined with Hasbro Studios to develop a "Clue" movie, based on the board game, five years after the project was abandoned by Universal back in 2011.

As Variety reports, Hasbro launched development of a "Clue" movie in 2008 as part of a six-year partnership with Universal to produce at least four feature films based on branded properties: Clue, Monopoly, Candyland, Ouija, Battleship, Magic: The Gathering and Stretch Armstrong.

However, following the disappointing performance of 2012's "Battleship", Universal called it quits on the "Clue" project, which has now been picked up by Fox to adapt.

While few details have emerged on the resuscitated project to date, it has been confirmed that "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski, who was initially was attached to direct and produce, is no longer part of the project at Fox.
