28 PR representatives went against the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012

A total of 28 from 33 opposition party representatives who made seditious speeches at the ‘Himpunan Suara Rakyat Suara Keramat' have went against the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Among those identified to have went against the Act include Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tian Chua and others.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the gathering which was carried out without police’s permit, went against the Act.

“The organisers went ahead with the gathering eventhough the police advised them to postpone it,” he said.

Hisan also said that the notice for the gathering which was supposed to be issued ten days before the event, was only sent to the Petaling Jaya OCPD ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed at 12.20pm yesterday.

The offence is made under Section 9 (5) Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and Section 124 (B) of the Penal Code, for not issuing a notice about the gathering and concerning activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy, to the district police chief.

In fact, Hisan said some of those who joined the gathering brought children.

“The gathering also brought about terrible traffic jam in the area because some of the participants parked their on the Damansara-Puchong Highway.

“We do not ban any parties from organising any sort of gathering if it abides by the Peaceful Assembly Act.

The notification about the gathering is important because the police can then advise or suggest where the participants can park their vehicles or roads that could be used.

“Their act shows that they are selfish. Imagine if any emergency happens on that day, how will people pass by in the massive jam?

“We take this seriously because the capacity of the stadium is only 25,000 but the crowd that came reached 55,000. Three police reports about the gathering have been made. Everyone involved in the gathering will be called to assist investigations soon,” he said.
