SHAH ALAM: Any release of dam water is carried out in stages and closely controlled by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), for all dams involved, taking into account the current river level trends and current weather changes.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) said this following (viral) spread of information over the Langat Dam and Semenyih Dam Water Release Planning Schedule issued by LUAS today which caused public concern, and it insisted that the schedule is prepared a day before the dam water release date for the purpose of early notification to relevant state agencies.
"The early notification is intended to give early attention to the low-lying areas downstream of the dam where the scheduled release was a plan made yesterday for the use (reference) of the water intake at the Water Treatment Plant as well as for the purpose of preparing reservoir space for the North East Monsoon season, " it said in a statement last night.
Accordingly, LUAS said no release will be made if the river levels show an upward trend and there is heavy rain in the downstream area.
The public is encouraged to refer to information on the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) website, https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my/ and the Malaysian Metereology Department website, https://www.met.gov.my for related information.
In addition, the public can visit the Integrated Water Resources Information Management System (IWRIMS) portal to get information related to the dam such as water level, reservoir capacity and percentage and the amount of rainfall at the dam at https://iwrims.luas.gov.my.
