Bersih 5: Youths must have a sense of identity to avoid being exploited

Malaysian youths must shape their own strong identity to avoid from being lured in getting involved in the Bersih 5 which will be held November 19.

Former Elected Representatives Council (MUBARAK) President Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Rahman said that having an identity is crucial to avoid from being exploited in the agenda of any parties.

He added that the election is the only way to make changes in the government and avoid opting to go to the streets to hold demonstrations.

"Youths need to strengthen their identity as a barrier in determining valid or invalid information or opt to join any demonstrations.

"We used to have the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU), but obliterating the act does not permit youths to do as they please. Youths need to stay on track," he said.

Abdul Aziz was speaking after presenting the Sembang Santai Merdeka United Youth Forum at Masjid Umar Al-Khattab (MSUA) council, Bukit Damansara on Saturday.

He cited several Middle Eastern countries in which, in the past had proven that street protests were capable to ruin the nations.

He said, currently about 400,000 youths are eligible to vote but only 40,000 people have registered with the Election Commission (EC).

"The youths are urged to register with the EC and to vote in the upcoming election. This matter should be taken seriously," he concluded.
