Case of seven men charged with DPP Kevin's murder transferred to High Court

The case of seven men, including an army doctor, charged with the murder of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais has been transferred to the High Court.

Magistrate Siti Radzeah Kamarudin allowed the transfer of the case following an application by DPP Datuk Abdul Razak Musa.

Abdul Razak, when approached by reporters outside the court, said the new date for mention would be set by the High Court.

Six men - G. Gunasekaran, 43; R. Dinishwaran, 23; A. Thinesh Kumar, 22; M.Vishwanath, 25; S. Nimalan, 22; and S. Ravichandaran, 34, - were jointly charged with murdering Kevin, 55, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, while Kevin was on his way from Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

They face the mandatory death if convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Pathologist Col Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 52, was charged with abetting in the murder of Kevin under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 302 of the same act.

The six men were represented by lawyers M. Manoharan and P. Rajagopal while Datuk S. Sivananthan appeared for Dr Kunaseegaran and lawyer Datuk Simon Sabapathy held a watching brief for Kevin's brother Datuk Richard Morais.

Yesterday, the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court ordered the case of a mechanic, A. Murugan, 44, who was charged with abetting in the murder of Kevin, to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

Kevin's remains were found in a cemented drum at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, near here on Sept 16 last year.

Kevin was reported missing on Sept 4. He was last seen leaving his apartment at Menara Duta here for Putrajaya in a Proton Perdana car bearing registration number WA6264Q.
