Child abuse case: Former AF contestant pleads not guilty

Former reality show, 'Akademi Fantasia' (AF) contestant, Mohammad Azri Abdullah was charged in the Sessions Court here, with abusing his step daughter.
Mohammad Azri, 30, was charged with abusing the girl by causing her physical injury by dipping both her hands in hot water at an apartment in Section 9 in Subang Jaya here, on May 5, 2016.
The charge under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001 carries a maximum imprisonment for up to 20 years’ jail or fine or both, if found guilty.
Muhammad Azri pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the charge.
Judge Mohamed Mokhzani Mokhtar allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 in one surety on the count and an additional condition prohibiting him of harassing the victim.
Muhammad Azri is married to reality show, ‘Mentor’ contestant, Salma Andi-Asis.
The accused who wore a blue shirt looked calm during the proceeding.
The court set Aug 16 for mention.
