Couple suspected of abusing their adopted child detained
Police detained a man and his wife suspected of abusing their four-year-old adopted child.
Police detained a man and his wife who were suspected of abusing their four-year-old adopted child at a house in Ulu Sungai Semenggo, Batu 10 Padawan, about 50km from here on Friday.
Sarawak CID chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Dev Kumar M.M Sree Shunmugam said the case came to light when police rushed to the house about 11 am on Friday following public information received on the possibility of child abuse being committed there.
He said that upon reaching the house, police found the child in the lounge with wound and scratch marks on the face, head and body.
In a statement on Friday night, SAC Dev said investigations revealed that the child was adopted by the couple, and police immediately detained the 27-year-old man and his wife, 35, at the house for further investigation.
SAC Dev said the child was now receiving treatment at the hospital.
