CPI Score: MACC scrutinises TI-M's improvement proposal

KUALA LUMPUR:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will examine and review the improvement proposal submitted by Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) in the fight against corruption in the country.

MACC said it took note of Malaysia's position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2020 which dropped to 57th out of 180 countries compared to 51st in 2019.

"We will look at any relevant suggestions or under the jurisdiction of the MACC to contribute to a better score in the future," it said in a statement here, on Friday.

In the meantime, the statement said, the MACC also welcomed the positive feedback regarding the CPI 2020 which is related to the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP), the enforcement of Section 17A of the MACC Act as well as the ongoing investigation of high profile cases.

Yesterday, TI-M President, Dr Muhammad Mohan, informed that Malaysia recorded a score of 51 out of 100 last year, less than the score of 53 recorded in 2019.

According to him, among the factors to the decline was the failure of the tabling of the Political Financing Bill as well as some corruption charges that were dropped.
