Dewan Rakyat's first sitting in 2015 begins with fiery debates
The Dewan Rakyat saw some fiery debates in its opening week this past week.
This week, the Dewan Rakyat sits for the first time in 2015, and without the need to warm up, the debate session which began Tuesday, was fiery as the opposition pact tossed a range of allegations against the country's judicial system.
The Federal Court's decision to uphold Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's conviction on sodomy charges and his five-year sentence was used by the opposition to hit out at the judicial system to the extent it was described as 'being bought by the devil'.
Bernama notes that Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) in her debate had obviously used her immunity as member of parliament (MP) to deprecate the judges involved in the sodomy case.
However, a 'diamond-cut-diamond' showdown emerged when Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) defended the judges when she put Nurul Izzah in her cross-hairs.
The former youth and sports minister blasted the young opposition MP and the opposition when she described them as practising "double standards" in matters concerning the judiciary and the legal system.
