Ministry of Domestic Trade Co-operatives and Consumerism of Johor today seized 150 pig bristle paint brushes in an operation against the sale of illegal pig bristles brushes without any label at two hardware stores here today
Inspections at the premises revealed that the product displayed fake halal logo to create confusion for consumers.
State Enforcement Deputy Head, Rizq Fazliana Abd Hamid said, the raid with the Johor Islamic Department took place based on information from the public.
“Business operators must be more alert with this issue that is deemed a sensitive issue especially to Muslim consumers.
“Consumers are adviced to be more careful when making purchase as cheap products are widely available in the market,” said Rizq after the checks at the premises here today.
He also added that consumers can identify the pig bristle product by looking at the tip of the brush.
Pig bristle is split at the tip, he said.
Business operators in Larkin Perdana, he added will be charged under Trade Description Act 2013.
The business operators were negligent and have failed to label ‘made of pig bristle’ or ‘made of dog bristle’ on the product.
For the first offence, traders can be slapped with over RM1 million or three years jail or both if convicted, while the co-operative faces a fine of up to RM5 million.
