Ex cop, two friends fined for extorting RM70,000 from Bangladeshi

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali meted out the fine on Mazwan Masngot, 36, and his friends, Khairil Mazly Abdul Maat, 39, and Mohammad Fariz Mat Yusof, 28, after all of them changed their pleas to guilty in the previous court proceeding.

The three men were charged with extorting a 44-year-old construction worker-cum-businessman, Atiar Rahman Babu by saying that the victim had committed an offence for having another person's passport in his possession, prompting him to surrender RM70,000 in cash.

They committed the offence at an area in Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya, here, at 8.30pm on June 11, 2015.

The charge under Section 384 of the Penal Code read with Section 34, provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any two of the punishments, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Khairil Mazly, an unemployed, and Mohammad Fariz, a restaurant worker, were each fined RM3,000 in default 10 months' jail for impersonating police personnel and arresting the victim at Restoran Irwan Shah Seafood, Jalan Pandan Indah 4/38, here, on the same day and time.

The charge made under Section 170 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both.

Mohammad Fariz was also fined RM6,000 in total for possessing a fake Heat P 398 Smith

He committed the offences at No 17, Jalan Akasia 2, Taman Akasia, Mantin, Negeri Sembilan at 8.50pm on Nov 1, 2015.
