Jamaluddin defending Behrang assembly seat
Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, one of the three state assemblymen (from Perak) who triggered the Perak constitutional crisis four year ago, intends to defend his seat in Behrang in the upcoming general election.
He said he will run as an independent candidate if he does not get an offer to compete on the BN ticket.
“I’m still going to compete in for the Behrang state seat. If BN lets me run, I will run. Otherwise I will run as independant candidate,” he said to Astro Awani.
Jamaluddin also added, he will go to Perak Election Commission in Ipoh this Friday, to take the forms.
Jamaluddin had competed twice for the Behrang state assembly seat located under the Tanjung Malim parliament in general election before this as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate.
In the 2004 election, he was defeated by the BN candidate from MIC, R.Apalanaidu, who won with a majority of 3,748 votes.
In 2008, Jamaluddin won with a majority of 1,207 votes defeating Datuk M. Ramasamy from MIC.
However, 11 months later, Jamaluddin along side Changkat Jering assemblyman Osman Mohd Jailu and Jelapang assemblyman Hee Yit Fong announced themselves as independent representatives supporting BN.
Their action led to the constitutional crisis in Perak. The Federal Court decided on May 10, 2010 that Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir was the official Menteri Besar of Perak.
Prior to this, Jamaluddin was charged in court over corruption scandals involving land development projects worth RM180 million, five year ago in Seri Iskandar, Ipoh.
However, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court decision in releasing him with the other two on February 6.
Behrang has nearly 23,000 voters with 51 percent of Malay, 21 percent Chinese and Indian 12 percent voters.
