A DAP Member of Parliament today urged the opposition pact to suspend cooperation with PAS over its tabling of the bill on hudud in Kelantan yesterday.
Regarding the action of PAS as treachery, Jelutong Member of Parliament Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun said the suspension must cover all levels and it could begin at the Penang State Government level.
"I urge all members of the opposition pact to take firm action from today and it should start with Penang. We must temporarily suspend all sorts of cooperation with PAS at all levels starting with the State Government including PAS representations in any State Government agencies.
"We also must suspend PAS representatives at liaison bodies between parties and at state Village Security and Development Committees level, suspend the service of council members in all local authorities and if there are publicity officers for any state executive councillors, they must be temporarily frozen," he told a media conference here today.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob yesterday tabled the bill on the Syariah Crime Code 11 1993 (Amendment 2015) to enable the hudud law to be implemented in Kelantan after it was postponed more than 20 years ago.
The amendment was tabled and debated in the Kelantan State Assembly yesterday and passed today.
The amendment of the code touched on syariah hudud crimes, law of retribution and punishment at the judge's discretion and only applicable to adult Muslims who committed offences in Kelantan.
Ooi who regarded the action of PAS as something unacceptable, said the DAP leadership must make an absolute decision on PAS' treachery against the opposition pact in a meeting to take place on Monday.
He said as a principle, DAP also could not be seen as interfering in the election of PAS leaders at the 61st PAS Annual Assembly which would convene in Selangor in June.
He also urged the society to remember the message of former Gelugor Member of Parliament the late Karpal Singh who opposed the implementation of hudud in the country.
