JPJ confirms arrest of 32 officers for allegedly accepting bribes

The JPJ headquarters in a statement said the outcome was the result of close cooperation between JPJ and MACC in efforts for the department to have a clean administration, free of any element of abuse of power and corruption which could cause revenue leakage.

“The top management of JPJ hopes that such action is a clear manifestation of the department not compromising with any wrongdoing which could damage its reputation and good name while working at instilling integrity among its workforce.

“This initiative will not bear fruit without solid cooperation among all parties, especially among the JPJ workforce itself.

“Hence the JPJ’s top management records its appreciation for those among its workforce who are steadfast in upholding integrity while carrying out their routine tasks,” it said in the statement.

Earlier today, the media reported that the MACC detained 44 individuals including 32 JPJ officers, a traffic policeman and a former traffic cop for allegedly protecting lorry drivers committing traffic offences such as overloading with the bribes banked into their accounts.

The big-scale operation was conducted by the authorities in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Perlis and Melaka.
