Former Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has lashed out at his successor, Mohamed Azmin Ali for wanting to review the free water policy to every household in the state.

He explained the state government must always ensure that residents receive water at reasonable prices and not to milk profit from the people.

Abdul Khalid said, water is a basic necessity for people from all walks of life adding that during his administration, the state government had provided the first 20 cubic metres of water free monthly to domestic consumers in Selangor in a bid to ease the people’s burden.

“If they have a swimming pool at their home and use more than 20 cubic metres of water, they would certainly use more water. Knowing this, the price of water being used must be increased,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said, whatever action Mohamed Azmin takes after the review, the same treatment must be given to all regardless of their background and income status.

“I want to show to the people of Selangor, everything that we had given to them was recorded just in case there are allegations of discrimination. The free water is for all.

“This is why I feel the matter needs to be discussed thoroughly. If we decide not to give, then we shouldn’t give to all. If we decide to give, then everyone should receive it,” Abdul Khalid said when met after Friday prayers at Masjid Seksyen 7 in Shah Alam.
