KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry is targeting to improve the adaptation of high-quality publications into the silver screen and help boost the local film industry.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said various 'Books to Screen' adaptations have been well-received by the Malaysian Family now.
He said the production of film adaptations would not only have the potential to bolster the country's film industry, but also opens up opportunities for directing and production of novel narrative content on the digital platform.
"Broadcasting stations and telecommunication companies need to forge cooperation with novel authors to produce more quality works. I believe it would help raise the rating of television channels, and commercial elements and generate income for the creative industry.
"Book to Screen which is a current trend in the creative content industry should be intensified. We need to revive the creative content ecosystem to enhance the socio-economic status of creative content writers," he said after the launch of the Supertelefilm 'Bangkitkan Aku Kembali' here today.

Commenting further, Zahidi said the variety of film genres of local productions based on solidarity, current issues, economy and academic fields should be boosted to enrich further the national film industry and educate the people.
On the issue of artists' royalty and welfare recently, Zahidi announced that the ministry would be meeting industry activists to find the best solutions.
Zahidi said he has several methods as well as proposals in mind to assist local art practitioners to generate income such as through the implementation of franchise business and shares, foundation, or consortium to ensure their future.
