PETALING JAYA: A bag containing RM1 million in cash that was reported missing yesterday afternoon in Ampang has been found on Jalan Hulu Kelang, heading towards the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway.

Selangor Deputy Police Chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the bag, which was found in the middle of the road, was discovered by a member of the public on the same day the incident was reported.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that the security van carrying the money was believed to be on its way from a bank in Ampang to Kuala Lumpur.

"The bag is believed to have fallen when the vehicle passed through a bend in the road.

"It has been handed over to the police for further action, and more details will be shared once the investigation is completed," she told a press conference at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters today.

Sasikala Devi added that police are currently taking statements from the individual who found the bag and the driver of the security van.

Earlier, Ampang Jaya Police Chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said police received a report about the incident at 3:55 pm yesterday, after a collection was carried out by a security company from a bank in the area.

It is understood that the security van driver noticed the vehicle's door was open and realised the bag was missing, before filing a police report about the incident.
