MIC wants 1,500 matriculation seats for Indian students

MIC wants the Education Ministry to ensure that indian students get their 1,500 places for matriculation courses.

MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said students with good grades who were rejected from matriculation courses, should be offered a place to study matriculation.

“If those offered with the courses had rejected them, then the places should be offered to other students,” said Palanivel in a statement.

Palanivel said, to date, a total of 6,150 students had applied for matriculation for the 2013/2014 intake .

He said for the first intake, a total of 1,500 students were offered places, but only 892 students accepted the offer.

“For the second intake, another 350 students were given the offer although I have yet to receive the figures of those who have accepted the offer for this intake.

“We have sent in appeal letters to ensure that Indian students will get their 1,500 places for the matriculation,” said Palanivel adding that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had agreed to increase the Indian students intake to 1,500.
