Special Branch Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has been appointed as the country’s 11th Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Mohamad Fuzi, who is a graduate from Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, has held many posts in the Royal Malaysian Police.
Among the posts that he had held include criminal investigation division head at the Ipoh and Taiping district police headquarters, and special officer at Bukit Aman's (operations/counter-terrorism) team.
In 2014, he had also held the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police for a few months following the retirement of the then deputy inspector general of police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Zinin.
Mohamad Fuzi takes over from Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar who retires today.
Meanwhile, Khalid, in his speech said that he would continue to fight as a policeman in his own way.
He also wants the Royal Malaysian Police to continue its mission to uplift the agency to the highest position.
Khalid said the decision to retire a day before his birthday was made by him.
Khalid -- who hails from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan -- has more than 40 years of experience being in the police force and started his career as a police inspector on Dec 5, 1976.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had earlier said that the Police Commission will decide on Khalid’s successor and also determine the directors of several departments in the Royal Malaysia Police before obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Throughout Khalid's service as the IGP, he had done a lot of transformations in Bukit Aman, including helping the Home Ministry in its mission to reduce crime index in the country.
