KUALA LUMPUR: Pelaksanaan program promosi kesihatan dan saringan yang berkaitan dengan empat jenis utama penyakit tidak berjangkit (NCD) adalah penting dalam mengurangkan kematian pramatang dalam kalangan warga emas di Malaysia.
Menteri Kesihatan, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, berkata usaha itu penting kerana NCD kekal menjadi penyumbang terbesar kepada keadaan kematian pramatang masa kini dan empat jenis NCD utama ialah penyakit kardiovaskular, kanser, penyakit pernafasan kronik dan diabetes.
"NCD dan komplikasinya mempunyai ancaman nyata dan ketara di Malaysia kerana ia kekal sebagai penyumbang terbesar kepada kematian pramatang dalam kalangan warga emas di Malaysia.
"Berdasarkan laporan Kementerian Kesihatan (KKM) dan Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO), NCD terutamanya penyakit kardiovaskular, diabetes dan kanser menyebabkan negara menelan belanja sebanyak RM8.91 bilion atau menyamai 0.65 peratus Kdeluaran Dalam Negara Kasar (KDNK)," katanya.
Beliau berkata demikian dalam video semasa persidangan bertajuk 'Living Your Golden and Best Years: Health Is Wealth', di sini, hari ini.
Dr Zaliha berkata berdasarkan Tinjauan Kesihatan dan Morbiditi Kebangsaan (NHMS, 2019), kadar prevalens NCD dalam kalangan warga emas adalah tinggi di mana 76.5 peratus rakyat Malaysia berumur 60 tahun ke atas mempunyai sekurang-kurangnya satu penyakit berkaitan NCD.
"Ini adalah kebimbangan kerana ia boleh membawa kepada lonjakan kes kematian berkaitan NCD pada masa hadapan. Oleh itu, saringan dan pemeriksaan kesihatan yang kerap adalah penting terutamanya bagi warga emas.
"Malah banyak NCD boleh dicegah jika dikesan awal, pemeriksaan kesihatan yang kerap dapat mengenal pasti masalah kesihatan yang berpotensi sebelum ia menjadi serius," katanya.
Beliau berkata KKM terbuka untuk bekerjasama dengan pertubuhan bukan kerajaan dan masyarakat sivil bagi mewujudkan kesedaran tentang penyakit ini.
Justeru, katanya, adalah penting bagi warga emas untuk kerap menjalani pemeriksaan dan saringan kesihatan untuk pengesanan awal NCD kerana ia boleh meningkatkan hasil rawatan dan mencegah komplikasi.
Sementara itu, Presiden Pengasas Persatuan Media Era Ketiga merangkap Pengerusi Malaysian Coalition On Ageing (MCOA), Cheah Tuck Wing, berkata pemeriksaan kesihatan bukan sahaja terhad untuk kanser, tetapi juga disyorkan untuk penyakit kronik lain.
Beliau berkata mengikut NHMS 2019, satu daripada empat rakyat Malaysia tidak aktif secara fizikal dan oleh itu disyorkan bahawa orang ramai perlu melakukan sekurang-kurangnya 150 minit aktiviti fizikal intensiti sederhana seminggu.
Pada persidangan itu, Persatuan Media Era Ketiga dan Universiti Malaya menandatangani Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) bagi menjalankan penyelidikan mengenai pelbagai jangkaan penuaan serta menggalakkan penuaan yang sihat.
"Kami berharap kerjasama ini akan membawa peningkatan dalam penjagaan kesihatan am dan kesejahteraan warga emas di Malaysia," katanya.
