No plans yet to mobilise military personnel off Pulau Pom Pom - Zulkifeli
ATM has no plans to mobilise military personnel off the waters of Pulau Pom Pom, Sabah following the shooting incident Tuesday.
The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) has no plans to mobilise military personnel in an effort to increase security surveilance off the waters of Pulau Pom Pom, Semporna, Sabah following the shooting incident at the general operations force (PGA) sentry post last Tuesday.
Malaysian Armed Forces chief, Tan Sri Dr Zulkifeli Mohd Zain said the police were investigating the incident.
"I understand there was a shooting incident and the police have arrested a suspect and seized the criminal's boat," he told reporters after attending iftar with ATM personnel at Khalid Al-Walid Mosque, Thursday.
He said the successful arrest has proven that security control had been effective.
In the 3am incident, PGA personnel of a sentry post heard the sound of a boat engine approaching the island and when they shone torchlights in the direction of the boat, two shots were fired.
The situation prompted the PGA personnel to fire back and forced the suspects to flee in the dark.
